When a family hears the words “Your child is blind”, or “There’s nothing we can do”, it feels like the floor disappears beneath you. For most CRB1-affected families, those words are followed by an even more devastating phrase:
“There is no hope.”
At the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation (CRBF), we’re here to say something different:
“Hope is here.”
We are a community built by families, for families—founded by a mom who heard the same words, felt the same devastation, and decided that wasn’t where the story would end. With no scientific background, but a fierce love for her sons and a deep belief in what was possible, she began a mission—and she didn’t do it alone.
From day one, professionals, researchers, and passionate parents from around the world stood up, stepped in, and helped turn a diagnosis with no options into a mission with unstoppable momentum.
From Grassroots to Global Impact
What started around a kitchen table has become a global nonprofit leading the charge for CRB1-related retinal disease. CRBF is at the intersection of science, advocacy, and family support—funding cutting-edge research, advocating in the halls of Congress, and building a network of families who now know they’re not alone.
And because of our community’s efforts, we’ve changed the narrative.
Where there was once silence, there are now conversations in labs, legislative offices, and living rooms around the world.
Where there was “no hope,” there are now clinical trials on the horizon. Where families were once isolated, there is now a global movement.
